Travel to Morocco: places to visit in Morocco

authentic nomad's favorites

Marrakech

Morocco is a welcoming and warm country.  It will amaze you with the beauty of its landscapes, the richness of its culture, and the sympathy of its inhabitants. Of course, you probably won't be able to visit everything. This is why Authentique Nomade Maroc offers and advises you on the cities or sites to visit.

Marrakesh

Marrakech is the tourist capital, the ocher city. A crazy atmosphere with its famous Jemaa El Fnaa square, a must, where snake charmers, musicians and acrobats rub shoulders. The Koutoubia mosque is not far from there.  This city is full of many visitors from all over the world to discover this famous place classified as a world oral heritage by Unesco. Let yourself be carried away by its colors, its smells emanating from the multiple itinerant stalls. But above all Marrakech are its souks, its very varied and colorful crafts. Day or night, in Marrakech you will not be bored. Enter the red alleys of the Medina, and discover the charm of Moroccan life. Why not spend the night in a riad and be enchanted by the beauty of its culture.

Marrakech is also the tourist industry with its many hotels on the outskirts. But forget that, and come and see this multi-faceted city.

If you stay there for several days, you absolutely must visit the Majorelle garden, the colors are sumptuous, the garden extraordinary. Bought by Yves Saint Laurent in the 80s, he has owned his memorial there since his death in 2008.

The Menara gardens are also essential for a family outing.

Culturally it is important to see the  Medersa Ben Youssef, the Saadian tombs, the museum of Marrakech, the Bahia palace.

A walk in the new city "Guéliz" is also a nice approach. You will not see any monuments but gives you an approach to modern life in Morocco with its  boutiques, cafes,  and restaurants.

Morocco is also and above all, magnificent landscapes thanks to its mountain, the Atlas. Here are some towns and villages near Marrakech that are worth visiting:

- Lake Lalla Takerkoust, Ourika valley and Imlil in the High Atlas where the landscapes are superb. You can visit them in 1 or 2 days. It's a superb stage, and the opportunity to discover how these populations live outside the cities.

Oukaïmeden and the Ourika Valley are restful stops and a good breath of fresh air. You can ski in Oukaïmeden in winter, it is the first ski resort in Morocco.

Ouarzazateand its region

The silent city. The road is superb, from Marrakech you go through the Tizi N Tichka pass. Very pretty mountain, where you will make very pretty pictures. This city is very pleasant, one feels a sweetness of life there. You can visit nearby the casbah of Aït Benhaddou, and the casbah of Taourirte, without forgetting the famous cinema studios, where many films have been shot (eg: Asterix mission Cleopatra, or Gladiator) Ouarzazate is also a step before going to the great Moroccan desert.

Morocco is also and above all the desert: M'hamid, Merzouga and Chegaga. The Sahara begins here, in the extreme south of the country. Admire the beauty of the landscapes, and spend the night in a bivouac. To appreciate the richness of the culture, the ideal experience is to spend a night in the desert, under a Berber tent. Access to the camp, by 4x4, will allow you to appreciate the diversity of landscapes and the desert: from sand dunes to improbable cool and shaded oases, passing through arid and rocky terrain. The tradition of tea and the well-known hospitality of the Berber tribes will ensure you a pleasant and warm welcome at the camp. You can end the day by discovering this unique environment with a walk on the dunes and enjoy the sunset on the horizon. In the evening you can taste one of the Moroccan culinary specialties such as tajines or méchouis prepared on site. Before returning to your tent, one last look is essential at the magnificent starry sky far from all light pollution. You will also appreciate the calm of the place which will ensure you a good night's sleep. When you wake up, sunrise in the dunes  and take a camel ride for about an hour before enjoying breakfast.

A Saharawi proverb says: "God created the sea to wash oneself, the mountain to purify oneself, and the desert to find one's soul there" To find oneself with oneself, it is superb to make a circuit of several days in the desert a rich and unforgettable experience.

TheDraa Valley:  The Draa River is the longest river in Morocco with 1100 meters in length which originates in the High Atlas to end in the Atlantic Ocean.
Located in the south east of the country, with a length of 200 km, the Draa Valley is one of the most authentic and traditional regions of the country.
One of the most beautiful regions of the country, its landscapes are superb: alternating oases, date palms as far as the eye can see, mountains in the background, traditional adobe villages and ksours, earthen kasbahs, orchards...
This road located between Ouarzazate and Zagora, promises you lots of beautiful encounters and surprises.

Essaouira

Charming and enchanting port city on the Atlantic coast. You can swim there, discover its port and its souks. Very friendly and original atmosphere.

Imperial cities

Marrakech rich in culture and  atmosphere. Fez is the spiritual and cultural capital, taking care to remain authentic. You will enjoy strolling through its medina. Meknes is rich in its historical heritage with, near Volubilis, ancient Roman ruins. This remarkable site is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Rabat is the capital of the country and you can visit the Hassan Tower and the Oudayas garden there, then take a walk in the city center.

Ouzoud Waterfalls

These 110 meter high waterfalls are located near Azilal, in the Moroccan Atlas. Ranked among the most beautiful sites in Morocco, they are one of the country's most remarkable natural attractions.

Chefchaouene: the blue pearl in the north of Morocco, located on the Rif chain. Known for its medina whose alleys are painted blue. In the region are the superb waterfalls of Akchour.
